The project client required a means of modelling the formation and recycling of crustal material within the early Earth using an existing geodynamics code named Underworld. The goal was thus to implement extensible models of several additional physical phenomena into the Underworld framework and to provide input-files that made use of them to the project client for use in his research. The solution was presented in the form of a plugin for Underworld that allowed the modelling of partial mantle melting, melt extraction, crust formation, and limited tracking of rock compositions. It is expected that the client will be able to utilise these new features to further his studies of early-Earth plate-tectonics. Download full PDF (151KB)
