The Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing (VPAC), a not for profit research service provider established in 2000 by a consortium of Victorian Universities, is a leading eResearch and Advanced Computing R&D service provider.
We operate a number of High Performance Computing Clusters in a quality management framework and provide Australian Universities, Research Organisations, and Industry with services, training and support in eResearch and Advanced Computing; and provide professional R&D services in the fields of Engineering, Geophysics, Health, Life Sciences, Spatial Information and Grid Computing. We also engage with our Member Universities and industry to design, install, and remotely operate high performance computing systems at their locations.
The Systems department has a new opportunity for a Systems Administrator to support the Windows, Linux, MacOS, and dual boot desktops and related server infrastructure that underpins VPAC’s business activities.
The role, reporting to the Systems Manager, requires hands-on skills with related technologies and will be primarily responsible for providing desktop support to internal users, including maintaining a Windows domain, backup systems, email services, printer services, desktop applications, managing shared Windows and Samba network drives and related local networking, and virtual machines. VPAC’s team environment will also provide future opportunities to participate in HPC Cluster administration.
The successful candidate will ideally have acquired applied IT experience in a scientific or academic environment, and possess tertiary and/or industry qualifications in Information Technology. Entry level applicants with strong technical skills and those with up to 3 years related experience will be considered.
