Software Engineer/Project Manager

The Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing (VPAC, www.vpac.org) is an R&D services company established in 2000 by a consortium of Victorian Universities.

VPAC provides a range of services in Advanced Computing and Computational Engineering, including:

- Management and operation of a range of High Performance Computing systems in Universities, Research Organizations, and Industry
- Software development and operations in a range of industry sectors including Automotive and Aerospace Engineering, Geospatial Data, and Health Informatics
- Development, support, and international collaboration on both open-source and commercial platforms

VPAC’s clients and collaborators range from major multinational automotive and aerospace companies to Melbourne Health and CSIRO. VPAC has a diverse range of current projects, platforms, and products it supports and uses, ranging from .NET to JEE.

VPAC has a rare opportunity for a talented Software Engineer with project management expertise to join their dynamic team. To be successful, you will be a focused, passionate, an adaptable person who shows initiative, and someone that is able to deliver outcomes.

VPAC’s HQ is in the Melbourne CBD where this position will be predominately located. There is easy access for both public transport and bicycle commuters together with local car parking.

You will be working with small teams of software engineers using agile software development for delivery of a range of projects with a broad constituency of collaborators and clients.

Your role will consist of:

- Project management of small teams of developers – primarily in JEE but also .NET, Python, etc.
- Applications development, as an active contributor to a development team
- Engagement with clients and collaborators to ensure the best project outcomes and client and collaborator satisfaction

The most suitable candidate will have degree in IT and a proven ability in modern software engineering and development across a range of platforms and projects. You will also have a demonstrated ability to rapidly “come up to speed” on modern software platforms and tools as well as an ability to engage clients who do not have a technical background.

To be successful, ideally you will have about 5 years of software development and project management experience and are looking to join a growing development team on the cutting edge of modern software development across a range of projects and application domains
